| In an effort to continually invest in local education, communications provider, AT&T made a $250,000 contribution to the Middle College at North Carolina A&T State University.
Middle College administrators and the School of Education at N.C. A&T will use the funds during the 2016-17 school year to teach students how to create apps, offer additional student leadership opportunities and to help fund college tours for students.
“These are all experiences and skills that can help move our students up to that next level of being ready for college and even their future careers,” said Marcus Gause, principal of the Middle College. “I’m excited to offer these new opportunities to our students and even more excited to see what our students do with them.”
AT&T’s gift represents a significant partnership between AT&T and A&T in relation to the Middle College and the company’s next level of philanthropy with the university. Additionally, it demonstrates the company’s commitment to raising educational standards and achievements through essential financial support.
“At AT&T, we are committed to helping students prepare for success, to strengthening schools and communities, and to expanding the talent pipeline for tomorrow’s workforce,” said Venessa Harrison, president of AT&T North Carolina. “Education has been our priority for more than a century, for we believe in the potential of all young people,” she said. “We are excited about the work being done in the Middle College program and are pleased to support all those who are helping students consider new opportunities and fulfill their dreams.”
Harrison, also an A&T Board of Trustees member, delivered a check to Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. and the university in a formal check presentation on Friday, Feb. 5.
The Middle College at N.C. A&T is a collaborative effort between the School of Education and Guilford County Schools. It is the first all-male public school in North Carolina and one of few in the nation. The school was recognized during the 2014-15 school year for posting a 100 percent graduation rate for four consecutive years. |
