Lady Aggies Prepare to Battle

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness, the North Carolina A&T women's basketball team will participate in the Play 4Kay initiative during its game at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, in Corbett Sports Center. The Aggies will face Florida A&M in a crucial conference matchup, but the challenge extends beyond the court into the stands as the North Carolina A&T coaching staff is asking all fans to wear pink in support of the worthy cause.

The anticipated game provides another platform for the team and university to show unified support of breast cancer awareness, which is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.

The 2016 Play 4Kay initiative is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise awareness and funds for women's cancer research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has benefited the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Since then, the fund has raised $5.18 million for women's cancer research and related projects. Kay Yow was a former North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and died Jan. 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. Yow was very determined in her efforts to raise money for breast cancer research, experimental medication and clinical trials.

After decidedly defeating rival, North Carolina Central in Durham on Feb. 6, with a score of 76-54, the team will have home advantage against Florida A&M. The matchup will also be aired on Lock TV, the university’s live and on-demand audio and video platform.

The Lady Aggies are currently 11 – 10 overall and 7 – 3 in the MEAC.
