| The North Carolina A&T bowling team’s third straight 70-win season is within range and the Aggies are clearly on a hot streak after hosting and winning the Brunswick Invitational at AMF All-Star Lanes. It was the Aggies second straight tournament victory after winning the Stormin’ Ladyjack Classic two weeks prior.
The Aggies went 10-0 at the Brunswick Invitational after defeating Hampton University 4-1 to win Sunday’s championship bracket.
The Aggies are getting hot at the right time as they head to Tallahassee, Florida for the third Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) meet. The Aggies are 11-5 in the MEAC southern division behind 13-3 Norfolk State.
Nevertheless, the Aggies are confident. A week after senior Emily Strombeck won tournament MVP at the Stormin’ Ladyjack Classic and conference bowler of the week honors from the MEAC, junior MacKenzie Robinson earned tournament MVP honors for the Brunswick Invitational. Robinson posted a total pinfall of 817 in four games. She was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates Kristin Shinn and Strombeck, Hampton’s Laina Rivers and Fayetteville State’s Jasmine Aponte.
Shinn, a junior out of West Columbia, South Carolina, had a total pinfall of 770 in four games and Strombeck posted a 682. Robinson had the best outing of the tournament for the Aggies as she bowled a 233 in a 995-763 win over Hampton in traditional play. Jacqueline Ashby recorded a 225 in a 967-767 win over Johnson C. Smith University and Robinson exceeded 200 again when she bowled a 214 in a 914-796 win over Fayetteville State.
The Aggies’ closest match of the weekend in either baker or traditional play came in baker play as they defeated Hampton 870-771. N.C. A&T also celebrated Senior Day over the weekend where Strombeck, Najah Owens and Briana Jackson were honored. |
